RS games, or the playroom

Category: Accessible Games

Post 1 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 19-Oct-2011 7:04:08

hello.

thought i'd post this as i've seen a lot of conversation in pubblics lately about RS games and the playroom. i was wondering which do you prefer, and why?

for me, i prefer rsgames as it has better sounds, a wider player base, and more seems to be constantly aded.

while playroom has a lot more games, i do think the sound quality is not as good, and also the players arn't as welcoming over there. only thing i like about the playroom that rs does not have is a spectate feature, so you can watch people's games. i think it's great for not only players that want to join a game, but maybe for new people that want to ask questions.

what are your thoughts

Post 2 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 19-Oct-2011 7:05:04

oh yeah, and with rs now you can stream radio stations through the client. that's really cool.

Post 3 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Wednesday, 19-Oct-2011 14:01:10

I like RS Games better too. The games are fun and I will try the radio stations thing.

Post 4 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Wednesday, 19-Oct-2011 21:09:06

I like the playroom; I think the sounds are better personally.
There are aspects of the RS games that I do like better though.
I'm rdfreak on both, and if you don't chuck the sads when you're losing, feel free to hunt me down; love a good game of 1000 miles or monopoly. :)

Post 5 by DRUM GODDESS (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Wednesday, 19-Oct-2011 22:42:54

I checked out rs games a few months back but for some reason I couldn't get the site to work. Will have to go back and check it out again.

Post 6 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Thursday, 20-Oct-2011 10:48:36

rachel i'll look out for you:)

drum goddess, what is your problem with rs?

perhaps if you post it 1 of us can provide a solution

Post 7 by pianoplayer4jesus (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Friday, 28-Oct-2011 16:20:36

I've never heard of the playroom before. What's the website? It sounds cool.

Post 8 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Saturday, 29-Oct-2011 22:13:59

I love both but the playroom has a lot better sound quality in my opinion. I will say the crowd on rs though seems to be more welcoming. The playroom client site needs to be updated to be honest and is very hard to find.

Post 9 by Lisa's Girl forever (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Tuesday, 01-Nov-2011 8:30:12

it seems like i like rs. games.- it's pretty cool. never tryed the play room before.

Post 10 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 19-Nov-2011 20:34:04

I've never tried the playroom, but rsgames is awesome! I like the fact that I can use it on windows or mac, and last time I checked the playroom didn't offer that.

Post 11 by illumination (Darkness is history.) on Saturday, 19-Nov-2011 21:26:18

I tend to like RS games better than the playroom.

Post 12 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Monday, 21-Nov-2011 16:03:53

Rs games is better then the play room cuz at least there there are games that are well known where as the playroom has games i've never heard of. so am like the fuck. so, yeah.

Post 13 by basket (knowledge is power) on Tuesday, 22-Nov-2011 15:27:21

advantages of Rs games,
1. friendlier peopel and more people who speak english,
2. the ability to make games private and put password on them,
Disadvantages,
1. Extremely slow and surver lags more than I've ever seen a surver lag before. this needs to be addressed or I will stop using Rs games!
2. Not being able to copy messages. this might be done but I just haven't figured it out yet.
playroom.
1. Much more responsive surver,
2. Being able to better manage messages,
3. More game variety,
4. More advanced versions of popular games IE Uno and 1 thousand miles,
5. Having spectater mode.
Disadvantages:
1. Not having the ability to password protect games. this is crutial.
2. the application is very unstable. Seems to crash fora lot of people although, I haven't had the same problem.
Therefore, I would have to say it has to be Playroom. Once they enable the password protect feature, I will completely switch over.

Post 14 by pianoplayer4jesus (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Tuesday, 22-Nov-2011 21:14:25

What is the website for the playroom?

Post 15 by basket (knowledge is power) on Wednesday, 23-Nov-2011 19:57:37

just google quentin c playroom.

Post 16 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Friday, 25-Nov-2011 14:12:13

dark emperor:

2. Not being able to copy messages. this might be done but I just haven't figured it out yet.

to do this, page up and down to the message you want, then control shift c to copy it to the clipboard

Post 17 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Sunday, 27-Nov-2011 1:33:22

I like the play room. The sounds are better & game play seems more seemless and the interface is more stable. However RS Games has yahtzee... I like Yahtzee. But QC Playroom screwed up Uno big time. I like that one better on RS as well.

Post 18 by pianoplayer4jesus (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Tuesday, 29-Nov-2011 17:26:26

I can't figure out how to access the games on the playroom. Every time I connect it tells me I've been disconnected from the server.

Post 19 by pianoplayer4jesus (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Tuesday, 29-Nov-2011 21:38:48

Never mind I figured it out.

Post 20 by burak (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 30-Nov-2011 7:29:21

Hi,
I play Playroom ore, because it contains more games, and I think its server is faster.

Post 21 by burak (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 30-Nov-2011 7:40:38

Hi,
Also the URL for playroom is:
Also I am not advertizing playroom but now it has more fun features for some games like uno and one thousand miles. Thanks, and hope to see all!

Post 22 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 01-Dec-2011 22:08:15

Leaning now towards playroom since rs's server is lacking.

Post 23 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Tuesday, 13-Dec-2011 14:11:59

rs game's server is fixed, much better now! so if anyone's hesitated, go try it! The playroom, or the game room as some folks call it isn't bad, but I prefer rs gamees since most of the people I know use that. I don't think it should be either or...it's whichever one you like best.

Post 24 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Tuesday, 13-Dec-2011 17:04:52

Agreed. it's like the Mac or Windows debate. there really will never be a winner, per say. I've actually never tried the playroom before. And especially now that RSGames' lag issues have been fixed, I love it. I've heard talk that there might be a spectate feature at some point, but this was only once and I have yet to hear any follow-ups.

Post 25 by burak (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 14-Dec-2011 6:35:48

Yeah! Lag issou has been fixed! I am loving rsgames more. For me, playroom and rsgames are eqoal anymore.

Post 26 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 28-Dec-2011 10:15:44

Everyone has an experience they're not happy with. and yes, the RSGames staff have made a few comments to people brushing off something they've said as not reading the docs when they actually had a valid concern, but for the most part, I've actually found them very pleasant to deal with, especially since at least one of them is in college full time. I really hope they keep up the hard work they've been doing.

Post 27 by cupcake (Newborn Zoner) on Thursday, 29-Dec-2011 15:42:53

I like rs games because I can actually play it. The playroom just tells me that playroom.exe has stop working and closes the program.

Post 28 by burak (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 31-Dec-2011 18:22:14

For some strange reason, I can't download the playroom, so I play rsgames more.

Post 29 by blindncool (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 18-Jan-2012 20:50:03

Never heard of RSGames. I'll have to check it out. What's the URL? How do I do that radio streaming thing?

Post 30 by Inspired Chick (Zone BBS Addict) on Tuesday, 24-Jan-2012 11:29:48

I love Rs games a lot better than playroom. For instance, when in 1000 miles on there, it doesn't tell you where Rs games gives you an indication via audio beeps. Much better, in my opinion.

Post 31 by Inspired Chick (Zone BBS Addict) on Tuesday, 24-Jan-2012 11:30:20

And the site to get the rs game client, is http://www.rsgames.org

Post 32 by CrazyMusician (If I don't post to your topic, it's cuz I don't give a rip about it!) on Tuesday, 24-Jan-2012 12:00:33

I have never tried the playroom, but how is it different from RSGames (which I quite enjoy)?

Post 33 by SatansProphet (Forever in the service of Satan, my King...) on Tuesday, 24-Jan-2012 15:52:43

I like RS Games better; the sounds are IMO, better than the Playroom. The playroom's not bad, though. I just prefer RS. I agree with Jessica; it is kinda like the Windows vs. Mac foolishness. Lol. It's a matter of opinion. Everyone's got their favourite.

Post 34 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Wednesday, 25-Jan-2012 12:24:13

RS games owing to the fact they have apples to apples. and apples to apples is something i've actually played.

Post 35 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Wednesday, 25-Jan-2012 17:31:24

I have liked RSGames from playing on it last night with Season. I wish they would send the messages to the Braille APIs as well, like The Qube and other software does, as that would be easier sometimes. I have not done the Playroom. RS seems like a slim, performance-friendly client.
And now I see why the daughter and nieces like Apples to Apples. That would be some big Brailled cards though if I were going to fully play it with them.

Post 36 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 25-Jan-2012 23:13:26

Love apples. Just wish they would get connect 4 and chess too smiley.

Post 37 by Master Alex Matthew SARcastic (Account disabled) on Thursday, 16-Feb-2012 4:38:29

RS Games is awesome! 1000 Miles is probably one of the best games on there, Yahtzee is a rip off, UNO is okay takes too long and Monopoly is good as well!

Post 38 by DRUM GODDESS (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Friday, 16-Mar-2012 22:40:56

I went back to rs games the other day and I got it to work. I'm really enjoying it. I forgot about it for a while but then a friend mentioned it to me. glad I went back to check it out.

Post 39 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Saturday, 17-Mar-2012 7:39:56

that's great, drum goddess.

what is your username on their?

we'll have to play sometime

Post 40 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Saturday, 17-Mar-2012 19:00:20

Don't know why but all of a sudden get totally weird messages on rs haha. so am play rooming it for a bit.

Post 41 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Wednesday, 16-May-2012 17:15:10

Well, I've taken the plunge and downloaded both. I have to say I prefer RS games. The only bad part is that there never seems to be anyone around to play Apples to Apples. Other games, if there's no one around, you can at least use bots while you wait. The playroom, I don't know since I've only run it a couple times, but I think the interface is a little confusing. I'm screamingTurtle on both servers.

Post 42 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Thursday, 17-May-2012 11:51:10

to post 40, what type of messages?

and at post 41, i like your username on rs so we'll haveto play sometime:)

Post 43 by YourBoyJD (Generic Zoner) on Friday, 15-Jun-2012 13:01:27

I use to like rsgames more but now i love playroom.
Yeah the people are less friendlier, that's cuz there from differant countries.
I like the playroom uno its really cool with the interseptions and all. and the server doesn't lag like rsgames.
And playroom has chess, i think rsgames should get chess it will get more people.
And there is much more people on playroom then on rsgames, go there like during the afternoon or eevning, there will be over 140 people there!

Post 44 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Saturday, 16-Jun-2012 9:10:57

rs games need chess and dominos

and what do you mean, " because they are from diffrent countries?"

rs have players from diffrent countries too, and they are nice people

Post 45 by YourBoyJD (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 19-Jun-2012 22:23:04

I ment they are from other countries, rs games, most people are from the U.S.
in the playroom there is a reason y u could like switch it to 5 diferant langwiges, much, much more people from other countries.
And yes, they could be rood, but all u do is kik them out, or dont join there game.

Post 46 by YourBoyJD (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 19-Jun-2012 22:23:56

and that's another reason i like playroom. the kik feature.

Post 47 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Tuesday, 19-Jun-2012 22:25:23

they both have the kick feature, if I remember correctly.

Post 48 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 19-Jun-2012 22:33:26

Yeah, they do. And if the people in your game don't speak English, who says you have to talk to them? You just go on the server and play your game.

Post 49 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 20-Jun-2012 12:42:19

long live the kick feature. :).
think 1 of my problems withplayroom is the translations. i really don't like some of those, and alos the sounds

Post 50 by YourBoyJD (Generic Zoner) on Wednesday, 20-Jun-2012 15:02:57

rs games has the kik feature but that person has to be not playing for 1 minit to be able to kik the person out, but, playroom u could kik the guy out whenever.

Post 51 by CrazyMusician (If I don't post to your topic, it's cuz I don't give a rip about it!) on Tuesday, 26-Jun-2012 12:02:23

I downloaded Playroom this past weekend and really like it... more boards for Monopoly!

I prefer RSGames for 1,000 miles, because the Playroom keeps crashing on me! I haven't heard of some of the other games on the playroom. Perhaps one of them will get scrabble?

Post 52 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Thursday, 28-Jun-2012 21:56:07

I used to have them both. i still prefer RS games though i've since uninstaled it cuz i hardly use it. i wasn't on it at all in the past 4 months so got rid of it. they put in anything new?

Post 53 by YourBoyJD (Generic Zoner) on Thursday, 28-Jun-2012 23:07:31

nothing new accept this game called shut the box, dont no how it works, dont really care. lol.

Post 54 by Carolina Rose (It's not over until I've had my say) on Monday, 13-Aug-2012 14:02:03

I personally prefer Playroom. The client seems to run faster for me, and they have a wider variety of games to choose from. I like RS's sounds better though, but I also love the comments Playroom has while you're playing monopoly.

Post 55 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Monday, 13-Aug-2012 15:19:15

shut the box is a game where you have to, ur, shut the box. lol.
you have 2 dice, and you roll them and then you have to put down the numbers. so if you roll a 1 and a 5, you have the option to knock the 1 and the 5, or knock down the 6. idea is to knock down the most numbers as possible- and if you knock them all down you shut the box.

Post 56 by slanovani (Newborn Zoner) on Monday, 27-May-2013 6:35:36

i prefer the playroom a thousand times, for the following reasons:
in rsg, when you play a game and you are the gameMaster, if the game finishes due to the fact that someone wins, the game terminates and you can't do anything else tan choose to get an email transcription of such game. so, if you have more tan two players in that game, and the others want to continue to play, they would have to créate a new game themselves.
in the playRoom, the situation is more informal: if you are a table master, you can do whatever you want with the table. for example, if someone winns the game, the table will stay open, so new players can join if they'd like. or, the same players can simply start a new game and give a revenge.
the same game can be played with the same players, at the same table as many times as they want.

Post 57 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 27-May-2013 17:26:13

I have always thought it a bit strange that they didn't implement that particular feature into RS. I wonder if enough people suggested it, if they would consider adding it?

Post 58 by Faial (Zone BBS Addict) on Tuesday, 28-May-2013 7:10:45

I like both but prefer Playroom! It is faster, easier to use and I can use my braille display! It's really like playing with braile cards.
And it changed a lot lately! The new version of playroom really totally changed the interface and possibilities. It's becoming really a client with a lot of features. For me, I prefer the playroom sounds because they are quiter and faster so I get the information I need without playing the sound for ever. I am Jorge in both but lately only use playroom.
And saying that people are less friendly because they are from different countries? Wow, how people can be shameless to say such stupidity?
Connecting kindness to nationality is such a ignorance...
For me that's the fact I like most on playroom because there are people from all around the world!
I wish this clients had mobile versions for IOS and Android. I would take the IOS one! That would be awsome!

Post 59 by Faial (Zone BBS Addict) on Tuesday, 28-May-2013 7:12:01

One thing I forgot to say is that it is wonderful that we have both options! Some years ago we had nothing!
I think those guys who developed it deserve all our respect and admiration!

Post 60 by Shell Script (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 28-May-2013 8:33:13

I prefer the Playroom over RS Games, since the games can be made much more challenging. But, for whatever reason, I have to reinstall the software for the playroom every time I want to play, as it keeps crashing for whatever reason. The sounds for the Playroom are great.

Post 61 by burak (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 05-Jun-2013 15:03:05

Hi, I don't know, I sometimes like the playroom, sometimes like rsgames. I like playroom more when playing farcle though. and when I play with a frined it's even funnier.

Post 62 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 05-Jun-2013 20:29:18

Can't remember if I posted to this topic or not and I'm too lazy to look right now. lol Anyway, when I first started with the 2 clients last fall, I liked RS better. That's probably because there were less short key to worry about. Now though, I have to say, I pretty much exclusively use Playroom. There are more games from which to choose and the pace is much faster. My hubby and I have had some hella Monopoly tournies. lol I do like to play apples to apples on RS though.
I've only had one bad experience on Playroom. I thought a player had quit playing because he was taking forever to take his turn. I kicked him so was treated to multiple profanity filled pm's as well as several pm's that apparently had the code to crash jaws.
I always feel a little badly when I join a game and can't speak the native language of the other players. Surely though, people understand. I am impressed by all of you who speak several languages.
Anyway, I'm preppinmomma on playroom and RS both.

Post 63 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 04-Jul-2013 7:11:08

I prefer rs games to the playroom as the games are better and not as difficult and people don't kick me out of games as much as they did on playroom which was pretty annoying.
